ERP consultant hourly rates: fixed price or time and materials

Search for an ERP consultant hourly rate and the top results are salary pages. Those figures are wages.

Search for an ERP consultant hourly rate and the top results are salary pages. Those figures are wages. The published bill rates run higher and wider: Odoo's Success Packs imply about USD 125 to 140 an hour, one Odoo partner's published range is USD 120 to 250 for US work, and KORE1's 2026 talent report puts senior independent consultants at USD 150 to 250. Quotes in that upper range are inside the published bands. Which contract fits depends on scope: a bounded first phase can carry a fixed price or a cap, and open hourly work suits discovery, where nobody can predict the hours.

Why the salary pages rank first

The results for this search are ZipRecruiter, Glassdoor, Salary.com and Indeed salary pages, plus one Reddit thread about what consultants earn. They answer an employee's question. A buyer holding two quotes needs a different number: what a firm charges for an hour of delivered work.

The gap has a structure. A salary covers one person's year; a bill rate carries bench time between projects, software, supervision, sales cost and the firm's margin. KORE1's August 2026 report makes the aggregation problem visible with its table of US averages for the job title: Glassdoor USD 123,292, ZipRecruiter USD 113,186 (restated as USD 54.42 an hour of pay), Salary.com USD 104,299 and Indeed USD 101,446. KORE1 reads the spread as four aggregators sampling different populations, with Salary.com leaning toward internal staff and Glassdoor toward people who post. City data lands in the same range: SalaryExpert's Boston average is USD 98,695, or USD 47.45 an hour of pay, with entry level at USD 73,256 and senior consultants at USD 111,975, as of 26 August 2026.

One warning belongs with these numbers. Do not multiply a salary by three to estimate a bill rate: the result looks precise and has nothing behind it. Compare quotes against billing bands, which the next section gathers, and against what the hours buy.

If the role itself is the open question, what an ERP consultant does maps the job and when to hire one.

Published billing rates, side by side

Few ERP firms publish hourly rates. The table below gathers the billing figures that are published, with what each number measures. Each row prices a different kind of seller.

  • KORE1 talent report (What the figure measures: Senior independent consultants, hourly band · Number: USD 150 to 250 · As of: Aug 2026)
  • TechUltra (What the figure measures: US Odoo partner hourly rate · Number: USD 120 to 250 (stated as 120 to 300 elsewhere in the same article) · As of: May 2026)
  • Odoo Success Packs (What the figure measures: Published pack prices, implied hourly · Number: USD 140 on the 50-hour pack (USD 7,000), USD 125 on the 100-hour pack (USD 12,500) · As of: Oct 2026)
  • SuperbCompanies (What the figure measures: US directory, average band · Number: USD 50 to 99 · As of: Oct 2026)
  • SuperbCompanies (What the figure measures: US directory, most popular band · Number: USD 25 to 49 · As of: Oct 2026)
  • Octura (What the figure measures: Freelancers, the publisher's description · Number: USD 80 to 150 · As of: Apr 2026)
  • TechUltra (What the figure measures: India partner hourly rate · Number: USD 35 to 80 · As of: May 2026)

Resist averaging the table into one market rate. The directory bands are self-reported and mix small offshore listings with North American firms, which is why the most popular band sits at USD 25 to 49 while senior independents quote USD 150 to 250. Both numbers are real; they price different parts of the market.

Odoo is the only platform in this set with published services prices. The packs run from 4 hours at USD 580 to 200 hours at USD 25,000 for returning customers as of October 2026, and first-time buyers pay 15 percent less on the first pack (USD 5,950 for 50 hours, USD 10,625 for 100). Travel is extra, and performance work requires at least 50 hours. If Odoo is your platform, use the packs as Odoo's own pre-priced hours and a comparison point: set a partner's task-level total beside the pack price for the same work. Then read how a partner-led Odoo implementation is delivered.

Business Central publishes no rate card a buyer can open. The buyer question on r/Dynamics365, "What's a fair cost for a vanilla Business Central", therefore gets answered from scope: ask each bidder for a task-level breakdown and compare totals on identical scope. Fixed packages do exist in that market.

Canadian buyers get directory rows labeled in US dollars. SuperbCompanies' Canada row, drawn from 20 companies, repeats the two US bands. One CAD-anchored services price is public: Rand Group's fixed Business Central package at CAD 47,000 (USD 35,000) for an 8-week finance and distribution start, as of April 2026. Ask every bidder to quote in CAD and to name the currency on each line.

What moves the rate

Region sets the widest spread. The US figures above run from USD 25 to 49 in the directory's most popular band to USD 150 to 250 for senior independents, and those two figures come from different kinds of sellers: a self-reported directory and a talent report. TechUltra publishes an India partner range of USD 35 to 80 against a US partner range of USD 120 to 250, as of May 2026; both are its own figures, and the page does not claim they price identical scope. The offshore saving per hour is real; the offsetting costs land on the buyer's side of the table, in time-zone overlap, coordination and management attention. Test the arrangement on a bounded phase before committing a full program to it.

Firm type overlaps with region. Octura describes freelancers at USD 80 to 150, KORE1 puts senior independents at USD 150 to 250, and TechUltra states US Odoo partner rates at USD 120 to 250. The bands overlap because a freelancer, a senior independent and a partner firm sell different promises: hours, hours with a reputation attached, and a delivery organization. A fixed price moves estimation risk to the partner, and the model table below shows who carries which risk. These published figures include no large-firm rate card, so ask those firms for one.

Platform changes what is public. Odoo publishes pack prices, so its rates sit on a vendor page. Business Central lists no hourly rate card; at least one firm, Rand Group, sells a fixed finance and distribution start.

Seniority follows the wage surveys. Boston wages run from USD 73,256 at entry level to USD 111,975 at eight or more years, per SalaryExpert. Quotes rarely break rates out by person, which is why the named-team clause in the contract section matters: you are entitled to know whose hours the blended rate hides.

Hourly, fixed price, or capped: how each behaves when scope moves

Alphavima's July 2026 walkthrough of Business Central commercial models assigns the risk in one line each. Fixed price: the partner carries estimation risk, and scope everyone forgot becomes a change order. Time and materials: the buyer carries overrun risk. Capped time and materials: the two sides share it.

  • Estimation risk sits with (Time and materials: You · Fixed price: The partner · Capped time and materials: Shared)
  • If hours overrun (Time and materials: You pay every extra hour · Fixed price: The partner absorbs them · Capped time and materials: You pay up to the cap)
  • If scope was missed (Time and materials: More hours at the same rate · Fixed price: Change order at the contract rate · Capped time and materials: Change order, or a renegotiated cap)
  • The vendor's incentive (Time and materials: Bill hours · Fixed price: Estimate well and finish inside the price · Capped time and materials: Bill hours up to the cap, then stop, because hours past the cap are unpaid)
  • Fits when (Time and materials: Scope is fluid: integrations, discovery-heavy phases · Fixed price: Scope is described and bounded · Capped time and materials: You want fixed-price discipline with a safety valve)

Milestone billing is fixed price with payment triggers, and the milestone list is where acceptance and cash meet. Define each milestone as a result you can test. A milestone defined as a date pays the vendor on the calendar.

How often do projects overrun? Panorama's 2026 report puts more than a quarter of them over budget, most often from an unexpected need for additional technology, which it links to poor selection. Its 2019 study found budget overruns on 45 percent of completed projects, averaging 24 percent. Neither figure is tied to a pricing model, so the choice among the three models turns on how well you can describe your scope. The next section prices the same project under each one.

One 400-hour project, priced three ways

Assumptions first: 400 estimated hours, single entity, finance and distribution scope, blended rate of USD 175 an hour. The rate is a working assumption placed inside the published independent bands, and it is a placeholder for the arithmetic. Substitute your own quote's rate before comparing.

Time and materials

The invoice is hours times rate: 400 hours at USD 175 totals USD 70,000. If delivery needs 480 hours, the total climbs to USD 84,000, and nothing caps it.

Fixed price

The partner estimates 430 hours and quotes USD 78,000, an estimate plus a premium for the risk it now carries (assumption again). Delivery runs long, to 480 hours of real work: the invoice stays at USD 78,000 and the partner absorbs the difference. Discovery then misses a returns workflow worth 60 hours. That becomes a change order: 60 hours at the contract's change rate. At USD 175, the example rate, that is USD 10,500, bringing the total to USD 88,500.

Capped time and materials

The cap is USD 78,000. Hours bill as they land until the cap, then stop. At 480 hours you pay USD 78,000 and the partner absorbs USD 6,000. The missed returns workflow bills as a change order on top of the cap: USD 10,500, for USD 88,500 all in. The difference from fixed price appears in the good case: finish at 360 hours and capped billing costs USD 63,000, while the fixed price stays at USD 78,000.

  • Hours hold at 400 (Time and materials: USD 70,000 · Fixed price: USD 78,000 · Capped: USD 70,000)
  • Hours run to 480 (Time and materials: USD 84,000 · Fixed price: USD 78,000 · Capped: USD 78,000)
  • Plus a missed 60-hour workflow (Time and materials: USD 94,500 · Fixed price: USD 88,500 · Capped: USD 88,500)

Change orders bill at the contract rate on top of the cap in this example. Read the table by row. Capped time and materials matches the fixed price once hours reach the cap: in the 480-hour row, both come to USD 78,000. Whenever delivery stays under the cap, capped costs less, at USD 70,000 for 400 hours and USD 63,000 for 360. Time and materials ties capped billing at every hour count under the cap and becomes the most expensive column once hours pass it. The hour count is the one input nobody knows in advance. Fixed price holds one advantage the cap lacks: the total is committed before the work starts, which helps when a board or a lender needs a number for approval. One lever matters more than the rest: the change-order rate, because every model bills surprises against it. Negotiate that rate at signing, while the vendor still wants the deal.

For a real anchor, Rand Group publishes an 8-week finance and distribution start for Business Central at USD 35,000 (CAD 47,000), as of April 2026. This example's totals assume 400 hours at USD 175, and the two figures are comparable only when the task lists match. Ask a packaged bidder for its task list before you set its price beside a custom quote. The Business Central implementation service page shows what sits above a starting package.

What a fixed price should include and exclude

A fixed price is only as strong as its boundary. Use this split when you review one.

  • Configuration of the scoped modules: Integrations missing from the discovery list
  • Data migration for the entities and history you listed: Extra entities or extra historical years
  • Training for the named user groups: Training beyond those groups
  • Test cycles and defect fixes before go-live: Modules added after signing
  • A post-go-live support window with an end date: Ongoing support after that window

The assumptions page decides more than the price page. Every excluded item is a change order you will buy later at a rate you can negotiate today. Integration lists deserve special care: Panorama ties over-budget projects most often to an unexpected need for additional technology, and new technology usually enters through an integration nobody scoped.

Contract clauses that decide who carries the risk

Two documents sit in front of you at signing, and buyers tend to read one. The software contract has its own checklist; TechTarget's June 2026 guide lists what to review there: fees and renewal increases, what the license includes, support hours, implementation scope and change-order rules, licensed user counts, data ownership with return or deletion, and how the contract ends.

Odoo's Enterprise agreement shows what those terms look like when written down. It is a subscription contract, and its clauses are worth reading as patterns: 30 days' written notice before changing partner, a non-solicitation clause with a EUR 30,000 liquidated amount, Belgian law and the Nivelles Business Court governing the subscription, and liability capped at 50 percent of what you paid in the prior 12 months, as published in October 2026. The implementation statement of work is a separate document; ask whoever reviews your contracts to check it against the rules in your province or state.

The services contract is where four clauses earn their keep.

  1. Named team. The rate buys specific people. Name them, and attach a notice period and an approval right to substitutions.
  2. Acceptance. Each payment triggers on a testable result, with test scripts attached and passing defined. A milestone defined as a date pays on the calendar.
  3. Change orders. A written rate card for changed work, agreed at signing, plus rules for who raises and who approves a change. Every model in the worked example bills surprises against this number.
  4. Code and data. Who owns the customizations, and who receives the data, in what format, when the relationship ends. TechTarget's data-ownership items cover the software side; the statement of work should answer the same question about your project's code.

Liability deserves one more thought. Odoo caps subscription liability at 50 percent of the prior year's payments; when you negotiate the statement of work's cap, start from what a failed go-live would cost your company and check the proposed cap against that number. And read the non-solicitation clause before you try to hire a partner's consultant away: Odoo's asks EUR 30,000.

How to read a quote before you sign

Buyers on Reddit meet a stock answer to any cost question: "There are no typical costs. It completely depends on your needs/requirements and desired workflows." A good quote answers it anyway, by writing its assumptions down. These warning signs tell you whether the quote in front of you did that:

  • One line item. An r/Odoo buyer posted: "The quotation has just one line item with no task breakdown." Without roles and phases you cannot see where the risk sits or where the padding lives.
  • Hours that fail to reconcile with scope. Ask for hours by role and by phase. When functional, technical and project-management hours blend into one figure, ask what happens when the technical share grows.
  • A rate far below the published bands. A quote in the USD 25 to 49 territory can be offshore delivery or a small North American firm; the directory that reports the band mixes both kinds of listing. Ask who does the work, where they sit, and who reviews it. The answer can be perfectly good; the point is to know it before signing.
  • Assumptions that exclude things you discussed in the sales calls. Each exclusion is a future change order.
  • Milestones defined as dates, with no acceptance test attached.
  • Support that ends at go-live, with the window after it unpriced.

Then put two or three bidders on the same task list and compare totals on identical scope. A rate means something only inside a structure, and the structure is where a quote shows you how the project will run. For the wider selection, how to choose an ERP implementation partner walks the full decision.

Negotiating: what to trade and what to hold

Vendors publish volume curves when they publish anything. Odoo's packs are the clean case: 50 hours at USD 7,000 implies USD 140 an hour, while 100 hours at USD 12,500 implies USD 125, a cut of about 11 percent per hour. If your phase needs roughly 90 hours, pricing it as 100 costs less per hour and leaves slack for discovery surprises. First-time buyers do better still, at 15 percent off the first pack.

Trade these:

  • Payment timing. A large upfront deposit is a concession the vendor wants, and it is your cash that leaves before anything is tested. If you agree to one, take a milestone schedule in return: smaller payments, each released against a result you can test.
  • Standardization. A packaged start when your scope matches the package closely.

Hold these:

  • The named team and the substitution rule.
  • Acceptance tests tied to each payment.
  • The change-order rate card.
  • Data ownership and exit terms, with a notice period and a data-return format written into the statement of work.
  • For Canadian buyers, CAD on every line of the quote and the contract.

One lever sits with you. Bidders price uncertainty, so a scope list you have already cleaned, with your integration inventory and data volumes attached, removes risk from the estimate and from the price. Flectic delivers ERP work in phases with a named team; the ERP consulting services page describes the delivery model and where a fixed first phase fits.

When you compare quotes, work through the pricing model, the change-order rate, the acceptance tests and the exit terms first, then the hourly rate. The bands above tell you what the rate should look like when you get there.

Frequently asked questions

What is a fair ERP consultant hourly rate in Canada?

No Canadian-dollar hourly rate is published. The figures buyers find for Canada are US-dollar directory bands, USD 50 to 99 on average and USD 25 to 49 most popular, mixing firm types and regions. One CAD-anchored services price is public: a fixed Business Central start at CAD 47,000 for 8 weeks. Ask every bidder to quote in CAD with the currency named on each line, then compare the quotes on structure.

Is a nearshore or offshore ERP rate worth it?

The hourly saving is documented: TechUltra states USD 35 to 80 for Odoo partner work in India against USD 120 to 250 in the US, as of May 2026. The offsetting costs appear on the buyer's side, in time-zone overlap, coordination and management attention. Test the arrangement on a bounded phase before committing a full program to it.

What is the difference between an Odoo Success Pack hour and a partner hour?

A Success Pack is Odoo's own pre-priced block of consulting hours, from 4 hours at USD 580 to 200 hours at USD 25,000 for returning customers as of October 2026, with travel extra and performance work requiring at least 50 hours. A partner hour is priced by the firm you hire and covers its own delivery team. Compare the two by asking each side to price the same task list.

How do Odoo consultant rates compare with Business Central consultant rates?

Odoo has public prices: its Success Packs imply USD 125 to 140 an hour and one partner states USD 120 to 250 for US work, as of 2026. Business Central has no public hourly rate card; one firm publishes a fixed finance and distribution start at USD 35,000 (CAD 47,000) for 8 weeks. Compare totals on an identical task list, because hourly figures hide the scope.

How do I convert an ERP consultant salary into a bill rate?

A bill rate carries costs a salary never shows: bench time between projects, tools, supervision and the firm's margin. Benchmark quotes against the published billing bands and against each other's task breakdowns instead of converting pay data.
