ERP financial management software: modules, costs and fit

ERP financial management software for a company of about 30 to 100 people usually comes down to three licenses: Odoo Accounting, Dynamics 365 Business Central, or Dynamics 365 Finance.

ERP financial management software for a company of about 30 to 100 people usually comes down to three licenses: Odoo Accounting, Dynamics 365 Business Central, or Dynamics 365 Finance. As of October 2026, Business Central Essentials is USD 80 per user per month, paid yearly, and CAD 108.50 in Canada plus applicable tax, and that license already includes finance. Dynamics 365 Finance lists at USD 210 and CAD 284.90, about 2.6 times the Essentials price, because it is a separate product. On Odoo, adding companies to a paid Standard database switches the database to Custom, where the US pricing page shows USD 49.00 and USD 61.10 per user per month.

The decision is which of those licenses covers consolidation, the close, budgets and more than one currency for the companies you already have. A second legal entity is the change that reprices Odoo. A move from Business Central to Dynamics 365 Finance is the change that reprices Microsoft. Canadian GST/HST setup is a third check, and it is not the same list on both products.

What each finance license includes

Business Central does not sell finance as its own SKU. Essentials includes finance, sales and operations. Premium, at USD 110 per user per month in the United States and CAD 149.20 in Canada, adds service management and manufacturing. Team Members, at USD 8 or CAD 10.90, is a limited seat for read, approval and selected updates. The person who posts journals, runs the close or owns the consolidation company needs a full Essentials or Premium user. A Team Members seat is the wrong price to put on that role.

Dynamics 365 Finance is a different product. Microsoft describes core finance as financial planning and analysis (planning, budgeting and forecasting), accounting and financial close, tax management, quote to cash, cash management, and business performance management. The same product page says the product supports compliance in 57 countries and regions and 67 languages, with AppSource solutions for 200 or more regions. Finance Premium lists at USD 300 per user per month and CAD 407.00, paid yearly. Microsoft distinguishes Finance Premium by advanced business performance management, higher capacity and storage, and 1,000 Copilot Credits on each license. Match Premium to that performance-management scope before you step from USD 210 to USD 300, or from CAD 284.90 to CAD 407.00. The Account Reconciliation Agent is marked preview. Leave it out of the close plan until it is generally available on your tenant.

Odoo puts Accounting in the same per-user fee as the rest of the apps on Standard and on Custom. The subscription includes hosting, maintenance and weekday support. It does not include implementation, Odoo.sh hosting, in-app credits (including vendor-bill and expense scanning) or custom-code maintenance. Odoo Accounting's feature list includes fiscal localization packages, monthly, quarterly and yearly period close, multi-company consolidated reporting, intercompany transactions, multi-currency with daily exchange rates, budget tracking on general and analytic accounts, fixed assets and depreciation, deferred revenue and expense, lock dates, and a tax-report drill-down to the journal entries. Avalara AvaTax is listed for the United States, Canada and Brazil. Team Members prices, USD 8 and CAD 10.90, are on the same US and Canada pricing pages as of October 2026.

What the licenses cost as of October 2026

Microsoft's prices below are list prices, paid yearly. The pricing pages say the figures are informational and can differ by country. Canada prices are the local list and still have applicable tax on top. In October 2026 the Odoo pricing page still displayed US dollars with the country set to Canada, so the Odoo column stays in US dollars. Read both numbers Odoo prints: the page stacks a yearly figure and a monthly figure on one card, and it shows a 12-month discount for the initial users ordered.

  • Business Central Essentials (United States, per user per month: USD 80 · Canada, per user per month: CAD 108.50 plus tax)
  • Business Central Premium (United States, per user per month: USD 110 · Canada, per user per month: CAD 149.20 plus tax)
  • Business Central Team Members (United States, per user per month: USD 8 · Canada, per user per month: CAD 10.90 plus tax)
  • Dynamics 365 Finance (United States, per user per month: USD 210 · Canada, per user per month: CAD 284.90 plus tax)
  • Dynamics 365 Finance Premium (United States, per user per month: USD 300 · Canada, per user per month: CAD 407.00 plus tax)
  • Odoo Standard (discounted pair on the US page) (United States, per user per month: USD 24.90 and USD 31.10 · Canada, per user per month: No CAD list on the page)
  • Odoo Standard before that discount (United States, per user per month: USD 31.10 and USD 38.90 · Canada, per user per month: No CAD list on the page)
  • Odoo Custom (discounted pair on the US page) (United States, per user per month: USD 49.00 and USD 61.10 · Canada, per user per month: No CAD list on the page)
  • Odoo Custom before that discount (United States, per user per month: USD 61.00 and USD 76.20 · Canada, per user per month: No CAD list on the page)
  • Odoo Light User (United States, per user per month: USD 8.90 · Canada, per user per month: No CAD list on the page)

United States Business Central prices: Microsoft's US pricing page. Canada Business Central prices: Microsoft's Canada pricing page. Finance prices: US Finance pricing and Canada Finance pricing. Odoo pairs and the Light User: Odoo pricing. All of these are as of October 2026.

Two traps sit under that table. Odoo states: "If you install Studio or add companies to your database, you will automatically switch to the Custom plan." On a yearly or multi-year contract the upsell order has a 30-day limit. On a monthly contract the switch lands on the next bill. The One App Free plan can hold multiple companies and does not get that upsell. A Light User is not a full accounting seat. On Microsoft, Team Members is the cheap seat, and the controller is not that seat.

What 30 and 80 full users cost in a year

Assume every person in the count is a full user who can post, edit or approve finance documents. Team Members and Odoo Light Users are a second line, because those prices do not belong on the controller, the plant accountant or an outside accountant who works inside the database.

Business Central Essentials, paid yearly, as of October 2026:

  1. 30 full users: 30 times USD 80 times 12 = USD 28,800 a year. In Canada, 30 times CAD 108.50 times 12 = CAD 39,060 a year, plus applicable tax.
  2. 80 full users: 80 times USD 80 times 12 = USD 76,800 a year. In Canada, 80 times CAD 108.50 times 12 = CAD 104,160 a year, plus applicable tax.

Dynamics 365 Finance at the base license, same assumption:

  1. 30 full users: 30 times USD 210 times 12 = USD 75,600 a year. In Canada, 30 times CAD 284.90 times 12 = CAD 102,564 a year, plus applicable tax.
  2. 80 full users: 80 times USD 210 times 12 = USD 201,600 a year. In Canada, 80 times CAD 284.90 times 12 = CAD 273,504 a year, plus applicable tax.

Finance Premium is a further step: 30 users at USD 300 is USD 108,000 a year, and 80 users is USD 288,000 a year. In Canada the same counts are 30 times CAD 407.00 times 12 = CAD 146,520, and 80 times CAD 407.00 times 12 = CAD 390,720, plus applicable tax. Buy Premium when you need the advanced performance-management scope Microsoft describes, and when the included credits and the higher capacity match a named requirement. The Essentials-to-Finance jump is the larger fork for most controllers in this size band. The Business Central versus Finance and Operations note is the place to test that fork against operating scope, not only against the license math.

Odoo, same headcount, using the two discounted Custom rates the US page displays. Custom is the paid plan once you have more than one company on the database. A year at the USD 49.00 rate is 30 times 49.00 times 12 = USD 17,640, or 80 times 49.00 times 12 = USD 47,040. A year at the USD 61.10 rate is 30 times 61.10 times 12 = USD 21,996, or 80 times 61.10 times 12 = USD 58,656. After the 12-month discount on the initial users, the page shows pre-discount Custom figures of USD 61.00 and USD 76.20. At USD 76.20, 30 users are USD 27,432 a year and 80 users are USD 73,152 a year. Which of the paired figures is the yearly billing term is something to read off your own quote. The subscription is still only the license. Implementation sits outside it.

A single-company company that stays on Standard uses the lower pair, USD 24.90 and USD 31.10 during the discount, then USD 31.10 and USD 38.90. Thirty users at USD 24.90 is USD 8,964 a year. A second company on a yearly or multi-year contract creates an upsell order with a 30-day limit. On a monthly contract the switch lands on the next bill.

Add-on seats, so the cheap price stays visible and unused for the close team. Assume 10 extra people who only approve or read:

  1. Business Central Team Members: 10 times USD 8 times 12 = USD 960 a year, or 10 times CAD 10.90 times 12 = CAD 1,308 a year plus tax.
  2. Odoo Light Users: 10 times USD 8.90 times 12 = USD 1,068 a year.

An outside accountant who creates and edits entries in Odoo is a paying user, not a portal user and not a Light User. Portal customers and vendors are not paying users. Any employee record with no linked user counts as a paying user too, which is how a 40-person company can cross a user threshold before it crosses a headcount threshold.

Which license covers consolidation, close, budgets and currency

Consolidation is in Business Central itself. Accountants transfer general ledger entries from two or more companies into a consolidated company. Those companies can sit in different environments, use different charts of accounts, run different fiscal years and different currencies, and you can bring in a percentage of a company. Eliminations are a manual journal, reviewed with the G/L Consolidation Eliminations report. Business Central can also export consolidated data for a parent that runs Dynamics 365 Finance, and Microsoft describes that consolidation API as free to use. Ask for environment and storage fees on the quote if you expect a company per legal entity. Design choices for the consolidated company are covered in our multi-entity ERP guide.

Odoo markets real-time consolidated reporting and automated intercompany transactions inside Accounting. On the multi-company documentation, authorized users can select several companies at once and see aggregated figures. Intercompany rules can create the vendor bill, sales order or purchase order on the other company in the same database. The license consequence is separate from the feature list: enabling multi-company on Standard creates an upsell to Custom. Branches follow the parent company's fiscal localization, so a US company and a Canadian company have to be companies, not branches of one parent.

Dynamics 365 Finance's product page names accounting and financial close, planning, budgeting, forecasting, tax and cash management. Have the bidder post an elimination and a currency revaluation on your chart before you treat Finance as the consolidation product. Use Finance when the planning scope, the country coverage or the parent-company role is the requirement. Use Business Central when the finance work fits Essentials and you can live with a manual elimination journal.

  • Combined result across companies (Odoo Accounting: In Accounting. On a paid database, multi-company moves Standard to Custom. · Business Central: In the product. Transfer entries into a consolidation company. · Dynamics 365 Finance: Named as accounting and close. Have eliminations shown on your chart.)
  • Eliminations (Odoo Accounting: Automated intercompany documents in one database. Elimination entries still have to be shown on your chart. · Business Central: Manual journal, then the G/L Consolidation Eliminations report. · Dynamics 365 Finance: Have the bidder show the entry.)
  • More than one currency (Odoo Accounting: Daily automated exchange rates, in the Accounting feature list. · Business Central: Consolidation accepts companies in different currencies. · Dynamics 365 Finance: Have revaluation shown on your books.)
  • Budgets (Odoo Accounting: Tracking on general and analytic accounts, in Accounting. · Business Central: Finance is in Essentials. Have the budget worksheet shown on your accounts. · Dynamics 365 Finance: Planning, budgeting and forecasting are named on the product page.)
  • Period close (Odoo Accounting: Monthly, quarterly and yearly close, plus lock dates. · Business Central: Run the close on Essentials and confirm the calendar on your fiscal year. · Dynamics 365 Finance: Accounting and financial close are named on the product page.)
  • Tie-out from a tax or report line (Odoo Accounting: Drill from a tax report line to the journal entries. · Business Central: Have the audit path shown on a posted invoice. · Dynamics 365 Finance: Have the audit path shown on a posted invoice.)
  • Parent on a larger Microsoft finance system (Odoo Accounting: Stays in the Odoo database. · Business Central: Export via the consolidation API, described as free to use. · Dynamics 365 Finance: Finance is that parent product.)

Odoo feature claims: Odoo Accounting features and multi-company in Odoo 19. Business Central consolidation: Consolidate data from multiple companies. Finance capability names: Dynamics 365 Finance. As of October 2026.

For a single-entity distributor under 30 full finance users, Business Central Essentials is usually enough. The Premium step is about manufacturing or service management, and the Finance step is about a planning and close scope Essentials is not being asked to prove. For two or more legal entities, multi-entity work does not require a move to Dynamics 365 Finance. User licenses stay Essentials or Premium. Any environment or storage fee was not on the list price and has to be asked for on the quote. Odoo Custom is the paid Odoo plan once a second company is on the database. For a group that already expects a Finance parent, Business Central subsidiaries can feed that parent through the consolidation API, and the users who move onto Finance pay the Finance price.

What Canadian tax still sits outside the license

Business Central's Canadian local functionality, documented as available now, includes sales tax and GST/HST reporting, use tax and purchase tax, bank deposits, electronic payment files, and GIFI codes. The Canada page lists no upcoming regulatory features. That is setup, calculation and reporting inside the product. Put the GST/HST return and any Quebec QST return on the project quote as a named task, with the person who prepares the filing.

Odoo 19's Canada localization ships a Canadian chart of accounts, provincial and territorial fiscal positions including Quebec, and balance sheet and profit and loss reports labeled for Canada, plus an optional check-printing module. Electronic funds transfer is a separate CPA005 payments module. Avalara AvaTax is an optional integration for address-level tax in Canada and the United States, and it sits outside the localization modules themselves. Ask who files the CRA GST/HST return and the Revenu Québec QST return, and keep that filing step on the project quote.

A US company and a Canadian company on Odoo cannot share one fiscal localization through a branch. They are separate companies, which on a paid database is the Custom plan. On Business Central they are separate companies that consolidate, and the Canada localization is what the Canadian company uses for GST/HST, use tax, purchase tax and GIFI.

Ask each bidder to price these as their own lines, on your own invoice sample:

  1. GST/HST and provincial tax on a sales invoice and on a vendor bill, including use tax where you self-assess.
  2. Quebec, if you have a Quebec entity or Quebec customers, on the fiscal position or tax area you will run.
  3. The payment file your bank will accept. On Odoo that is the CPA005 module. On Business Central it is the electronic payment file in the Canadian localization.
  4. GIFI mapping if a Canadian year-end package depends on it. Business Central documents GIFI codes. Ask Odoo bidders to show the mapping they will load.
  5. Who prepares the return after the report is printed. Keep filing outside the license line so it is not assumed.

Finance's product page names tax management and country coverage. Put the same five-line demo on the Finance bidder's agenda, including a GST/HST invoice and a Quebec invoice if you collect those taxes.

What implementation costs on top of the license

The license table is the recurring bill. The project is the other bill, and only Odoo publishes a dollar figure for it.

Odoo Success Packs, new-customer prices with 15% off the first pack, as of October 2026: Starter USD 493 for 4 hours, Basic USD 3,060 for 25 hours, Standard USD 5,950 for 50 hours, Custom USD 10,625 for 100 hours, and Pro USD 21,250 for 200 hours. Returning-customer prices are USD 580, USD 3,600, USD 7,000, USD 12,500 and USD 25,000 for the same hour blocks. Odoo says 80% of projects in that estimator's scope go live in 200 hours or less, and it quotes a 98% success rate with a pack versus 65% without. That success-rate pair is Odoo's own figure. Above 50 users, Odoo tells buyers to contact them. Odoo also directs companies under 50 employees to its own packs and companies over 50 employees to a partner. Under 50 employees and under 50 users, Odoo points to its own packs. Over 50 employees it points to a partner. Above 50 users it says to make contact. Packs are priced in US dollars on that page.

Microsoft's Business Central pricing page tells buyers to contact a partner to purchase and for assessment or consulting. It does not publish an implementation fee. Treat any fixed project number you have heard for Business Central or Finance as the bidder's number, and make them write it down by phase.

Hours disappear into the wrong work when the license was wrong. A Standard database that becomes Custom mid-project reprices every user and burns the hours already spent on a plan you cannot keep. A Business Central build that later moves the parent ledger to Finance reprices the users who move, and the consolidation company you just designed may be thrown away. Buyers on the Odoo pricing page ask "Where can I get implementation services, and how much does it cost?" The pack page answers with hours. Microsoft's pricing page tells you to contact a partner and leaves the fee off the page. The second invoice is part of the decision.

Our target for a first usable phase is 8 to 12 weeks, using the Flectic Accelerated Delivery Framework. Use that as our planning range for a scoped first close, and judge a 200-hour pack against the entity count on your own project.

How to choose before the tier changes under you

Buyers on Odoo's pricing page ask "What is the difference between the standard plan and the custom plan?" For a finance rollout, start with the company count. One company can stay on Standard and still get Accounting. The second company on that paid database is Custom, at the higher pair of rates, for every user. Studio and custom development sit on Custom as well. The One App Free plan can hold several companies without that switch. Treat it as a trial until the close needs weekday support and the full app set.

On Microsoft, compare products before you compare Premium with Essentials. Essentials already has finance and already has consolidation, with manual eliminations. Premium is the manufacturing and service step. Finance is the step to a separate finance product at roughly 2.6 times the Essentials list, in both USD and CAD, as of October 2026. Finance Premium is the performance-management and credits step after that.

Run this sequence before you sign.

  1. Name every person who will create, edit or approve a finance document. Price them as full users. List approvers who only release documents as Team Members or Light Users, and confirm the buttons those seats are allowed to press.
  2. Count legal entities, currencies and countries. If the count of entities is greater than one, price Odoo at Custom, or price Business Central with a consolidation company and a manual elimination journal. If a Finance parent is already decided, price the Business Central export and the Finance users separately.
  3. Ask for a working session on your chart of accounts: one elimination, one close calendar, one budget line, one foreign-currency invoice, and one Canadian tax invoice if you collect GST/HST or QST. Features named on a product page still have to post on your books.
  4. Split the project quote into license, data migration, Canadian tax and payment files, training, and the hours after go-live. Odoo's packs are one way to buy hours. They are not a substitute for that split. Microsoft publishes no implementation fee, so the bidder has to write that split.
  5. Ask who configures the system, who owns the result, and which named people are on the hours. References should be companies of a similar entity count and a similar close, in the US or Canada. A phase plan should say what the first phase leaves out, including filing the tax return.
  6. If the ledger you close today is the one behind the search "Is QuickBooks a ERP system", write down the QuickBooks reports you still need after 30 days: the consolidated trial balance, the tax report, and the open receivables and payables. "Outgrowing your current system?" sits beside that question in the same results. The test is which of those three reports breaks first.

Finance implementation for a 30 to 100 person company is how we scope Business Central, Dynamics 365 Finance and Odoo in phases: the license, the first close, and the data that has to move. ERP implementation covers the wider rollout when finance is only the first department. Bring the entity count, the currency list and the seat list to the call. Those three numbers decide the tier before anyone writes a statement of work.

How Flectic can help

Flectic is an independent consultancy that implements Odoo and Microsoft Dynamics 365 for companies of 20 to 100 people in the US and Canada, including finance teams that want payables, receivables and close on a single ledger. Each phase has a defined scope and price before it starts, and the first one delivers a working part of the system. Our ERP implementation service replaces the spreadsheets behind month-end with one ERP, and you check migrated opening balances before anyone relies on them. When you are ready, select Book a free discovery call and Flectic will talk through your finance needs before you decide on a license.

Frequently asked questions

What are the top 5 ERP systems?

Search results for this topic name Oracle NetSuite, SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Sage Intacct and Dynamics 365 Business Central, and they also ask for a top five. There is no official ranking behind that question. For a 30 to 100 person company in the US or Canada, price Odoo Accounting, Business Central and Dynamics 365 Finance against your entities, currencies and close, and add another product only when one of those three fails a requirement you can demonstrate.

Is QuickBooks an ERP system?

QuickBooks is the small-business ledger many controllers still close, which is why the question shows up beside ERP finance searches. Whether a vendor markets it as an ERP matters less than whether your file already consolidates legal entities, posts more than one currency and finishes the close without a second spreadsheet. If those three jobs have moved outside QuickBooks, you are comparing finance licenses, not renaming the ledger.

Is NetSuite an ERP?

Search results treat Oracle NetSuite as ERP finance software, in the same group as SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Sage Intacct and Business Central. It is sold as an ERP. This comparison prices Odoo, Business Central and Dynamics 365 Finance because those are the licenses a 30 to 100 person company can check against public US and Canadian lists as of October 2026. Ask a NetSuite bidder for the same entity, currency and close demo you ask of the other three.

Is Sage an ERP system?

The same search that asks whether Sage is an ERP names Sage Intacct next to other finance ERP products. Treat that as the product category, then test the license you would buy: how many legal entities it consolidates, how eliminations are posted, how currencies revalue, and what Canadian GST/HST or Quebec setup costs on top. A product name does not answer those questions.

Is multi-company or Studio available in the One App Free plan?

Odoo says the One App Free plan can hold multiple companies and does not receive the Custom-plan upsell that a paid Standard database gets when you add companies. Installing Studio or adding companies on a paid database is what switches that database to Custom. Use the free plan to look at the screens. A production close for a team that needs weekday support and the full app set belongs on a paid plan, priced at Custom once you have a second company.

How do you define a paying user?

On Odoo, a paying user is anyone with backend access to create, view or edit records, plus any employee record that has no linked user. An outside accountant working in the database is a paying user. Portal customers and vendors are not. A Light User is a cheaper seat and is not full accounting access. On Business Central, Team Members is the limited seat for read, approval and selected updates, and the person who posts the close needs Essentials or Premium.
